Discover the benefits of Simco-ION products
On this page, you’ll discover how precise measuring enhances industrial processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. Simco-ION provides advanced measurement solutions designed to meet the demanding requirements of modern manufacturing. Our technology helps maintain product quality, optimize operations, and support a safe and reliable workplace.

Measuring Equipment
Measuring levels of Static Electricity
Measuring levels of static electricity can be necessary to find out if you have problems related to static electricity. In many cases unwanted phenomena like clinging sheets or repelling of sheets are seen in production environments. The real cause of these unwanted problems can not be seen and therefore measuring levels of static electricity is needed. This can be done with a static electricity meter both inline inside the machine or via a handheld device. Measuring levels of static electricity with a meter brings insight in both the amount of the static electricity(kV) and the polarity of the static electricity. This knowledge is the basis for finding a solution for the problem.
(High) static charges can result in production problems like:
Complete machine stops
Undesirable attraction of dust and particles
Electrical shocks to production employees
Static Meters
If you are dealing with static electricity or a static charge measuring the charge gives you insight. Static builds up on surfaces with high resistance. To measure resistance you can use surface measurement equipment or a surface resistivity meter. To measure static charge we use measuring equipment with a Voltage sensor. Measuring static electricity with a multimeter is not an option since the input impedance is too low. The value of static electricity normally exceeds many kiloVolts.
Measuring instruments can help you to make the invisible phenomenon static charge more visible. The meters do this by means of measuring the electric field with the electrical fieldmeter. So the answer to the general question “can you measure static electricity” is yes.
A static measuring device is particularly helpful when you encounter problems like static shock. More on when it is useful to measure static charge with a static meter?
-
For locating the source of static electricity buildup
-
For locating the polarity of the static electricity
-
After an anti-static system to measure the effectiveness of the static eliminators
-
For active full control of the ionisation in level and polarity inline in machines
-
Quality control on static for your customer
-
As control after a static charger (setting levels of static Voltage)
Static Measurement Equipment
To measure static charge Simco has developed static measurement equipment with a Voltage sensor. Simco-Ion offers two types of static measurement equipment:
-
Handheld Static Meter – FMX-004
-
In-Line Static Meter Array – IQ Static Sensor bar
A simple way to determine if a static charge is present can be done by means of a Static Checker. For that Simco-Ion produces the TensION static bar checker.
Simco-Ion now offers a High-Voltage Detector that works for both AC and DC static neutralizing and charging bars of all makes and brands. The TensION Voltage Detector is a simple way to determine if there is high voltage on the pins of the static bar. The TensION is handheld and as big as a pen and can be easily added to your set of tools.
In-line Static Meter – IQ Static Sensor Bar
In-line Static Meter. Continuous static measuring in machines can be done with the in-line static meter array. A large number of voltage sensors is mounted inside a bar. The sensors each take a part of the moving web and measure the voltage on different spots. The data from the sensor segments are routed to the backbone of the static control system, the Manager IQ.
The Sensor IQ Easy, an inline industrial static meter, offers even more options for full control of the static charge. The voltage sensor measures the electric field even in high-speed machines and can regulate to 0 kV.
It delivers measurement values to devices in a Static Control System (IQ Easy system). This system has been developed by Simco-Ion and makes active regulation of charge and measurement possible. Furthermore, the measured values can be logged via the Manager IQ Easy for further evaluation. This gives you a unique tool to control your process and capture process parameters for quality control.

Sensor IQ Easy
The Sensor IQ Easy is an inline static meter with up to 16 sensor heads that monitor electrostatic charge across a web. Data is sent to the Manager IQ Easy for real-time control, process logging, and quality monitoring, with a built-in low-pressure air connection to protect the sensors in dirty environments.
We also offer a version specifically designed for ATEX zones with explosion hazards. Read more about the Sensor IQ Easy EX here.

FMX-004
The Simco FMX-004 HANDHELD static field meter, measures static charge or static electricity in strength (kV) and polarity (+/-).

TensION
The Simco-ION TensION provides a quick and practical indication of the presence of electric charge — the tip of the pen will light up when charge is detected.

Maik Zimmer, Technical Sales
“The first step in controlling electrostatics is knowing where the problem is. With Simco-Ion’s measuring tools, you can pinpoint sources and assess the size of the challenge.”
